FALLING FOR FALL

Autumn Blend by Leanne LaineI am very lucky to live where I do, witnessing the seasons turn. The dead of winter turning to the blossoming of springtime. The spring air drifts to allow the heat of the summer sun to reside for a couple months before the leaves start to fall again.  And that’s where I find so much inspiration for many of my pieces, the crisp days of autumn. Just as a vintner can grab the elements of fall, and place them into a glass to celebrate the season, (which was the inspiration behind my painting  Autumn Blend ) I like to use all the elements of the season as an artist, and let the colors of the season work their own magic on my canvas.

Whether it be the last leaf to fall in Holding On, or the wind setting the leaves adrift in The Wind Dancer, the color of the season appeals to me so much, that I forget about the side notes to it all. The raking of the leaves, the rain, the cool weekend mornings, and it being the last season before winter strikes again. But there is a romance that lies beneath it all, as in Welcome Home, Dear where a glass of wine for two is the remedy that makes the weather be all but forgotten. The silence of the moment, where a tree sits, soon knowing its leaves will abandon it, its surroundings its only Solace.  And then there is Simply Exhale ,  the moment where a tree just lets go of it all, and knows that their leaves will greet them again one day.  The 6am Autumn Express, where the roar of the steam engine waves hello to the fall foliage, takes one on a journey to wherever they want to go. And Mad October, well, there is a piece that as angry as the October winds howl, there is nothing more comforting than being inside, enjoying a warm drink, while watching the October sky rage outside my window playing havoc with each umbrella it sinks its teeth into.

So, “Hello Fall” , I welcome your beautiful warm colors, and this year I have purchased a few extra umbrellas waiting for you to welcome me too.
